Hard Flags in Color My Flag

Coats of arms, script, and star fields — painted slowly so a streak survives.

Hard Flags

A hard Color My Flag round is usually an emblem, a script band, or a dense star field, not a rare country you have never heard of. Portugal in the official art is the mascot: miss the green and red and the coat of arms cannot save you; hit the fields and rush the sphere and you still lose. This page is the how-to for those templates. Rankings live on the hardest flags list. Color names live on the flag color chart.

Slow is allowed. How to win already said it: a remaining streak beats a 15% scribble.

Portugal, Spain, Mexico — arms on a tricolor

  • Portugal. Green hoist, red fly, gold armillary sphere and shield in the center. Fill green, fill red, then gold. Do not start with the sphere on a blank white sheet. The thumbnail that shows purple-cyan Portugal is what 0.67% looks like.
  • Spain. Red-yellow-red with the coat of arms toward the hoist on the yellow. Get the yellow fat. The arms are a bonus you should attempt only after the bands are clean.
  • Mexico. Green-white-red vertical like Italy, plus the eagle. If you paint Italy and submit, you lose. Place the bird on white, not on green.

These three are why similar flags and this page should be open together. Italy is easy until the template is Mexico.

Brazil and the southern sky

Brazil is a green field, a yellow lozenge, a blue globe, and a white band with stars. Sequence:

  1. Green field.
  2. Yellow rhombus.
  3. Blue disc.
  4. White band.
  5. Stars only if time remains.

Skipping to stars on a pink field is the gallery-2 joke. The motto band is small. It is still part of the score if the template includes it. Zoom on mobile. See controls.

Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan variants, and script

Green field plus white script (and a sword on Saudi Arabia) is a different motor skill. Block in the green, then the white. Do not outline the letters in gold “to make them pop.” Extra colors are how accuracy dies. If the template is dense calligraphy, aim for the right two colors and a recognizable sword. Perfectionism that introduces a third hue is a loss.

United States, Australia, Malaysia — many charges

The United States is not hard because people do not know it. It is hard because the canton is a star field. Full walkthrough: United States. Paint the seven red stripes and six white stripes as bands, not as 13 separate hero moments. Then blue canton, then white stars. Pink stars are an automatic dump; the official icon shows that on purpose.

Australia and New Zealand need a correct Union Flag canton plus the right fly stars. Walkthrough: canton flags. If you cannot freehand the Union Flag, copy the template’s red-white-blue knot slowly. This is a similar flags cousin problem as much as a hard-flag problem.

A hard-flag checklist

  1. Name the country and the base geometry (bicolor, tricolor, canton, emblem).
  2. Fill every large official color.
  3. Place one emblem, not five decorations.
  4. Stop. Submit.
  5. After a miss, note whether it was hue, order, or emblem, then jump to accuracy tips.

Do not buy 2x IQ to solve Portugal. IQ is a stat, not a tracing overlay. Do not wait on codes either. Practice the sequence on easel rounds until green-red-gold is muscle memory.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Color My Flag coloring duels.

What makes a Color My Flag round hard?

Emblems, script, and dense stars. The base bands are still the first thing to paint correctly.

Should I skip the coat of arms to save time?

Never skip the large fields. Attempt the arms after green/red/yellow are correct. A missing emblem hurts less than a wrong field.

How do I paint the United States without pink stars?

Stripe the red and white first, fill the blue canton, then place white stars. Do not pick a decorative pink.

Is Brazil harder than Portugal?

Brazil has more layers (field, lozenge, globe, band, stars). Portugal punishes the wrong green/red pair. Both belong on the hard list.
